Owen Hughes

Owen moved from North Wales to begin his PhD at the University of York supervised by Drs Will Unsworth, Chris Spicer and Martin Fascione in 2022. His research is focussed on assembling medium-sized rings and macrocycles on peptides and proteins as a novel site-selective bioconjugation technique.

Previously, Owen studied MChem Medicinal Chemistry with Pharmacology at the University of Liverpool where he completed an extended research project on the synthesis of chiral functionalised β-turn peptidomimetics with Dr Ian O’Neil. Before moving to York, Owen also completed a 2 nd extended research project on the synthesis of sulfoxonium ylide probes as covalent warheads for protein modification with Dr Christophe Aïssa.

Outside the lab, Owen enjoys exploring the city and hiking along the coast.
